1. Who May Be Adopted?

Under Idaho law, an adult may be adopted if the petitioner has:

Sustained the relationship of a parent to the proposed adoptee while the adoptee was a minor for a period exceeding one year; OR
Established a substantial parent-child relationship which the Court determines is sufficient to support the adoption.

2. Parental Rights

Unlike adoptions involving minor children, Adult Adoptions generally do not require the termination of parental rights, and no consent is required from the proposed adoptee's natural parents when the proposed adoptee is over eighteen years of age.

3. How to Begin

To begin the process, click the Start Adult Adoption Questionnaire button on this page. Your completed questionnaire will be automatically transmitted to us upon submission. Following completion of the questionnaire, please also send the following:

A copy of the proposed adoptee's birth certificate
A recent photograph of the adopting parent and proposed adoptee together (if available)
Any additional information you would like the Court to know regarding your parent-child relationship

4. Fees

Once I receive your completed questionnaire, I will review the information and email you an invoice for my flat document preparation fee of $500.00.

5. What You Will Receive

Upon payment, I will prepare and email your completed Adult Adoption packet, which typically includes:

Petition for Adult Adoption
Consent of Petitioner's Spouse (if applicable)
Consent of Proposed Adoptee
Consent of Proposed Adoptee's Spouse (if applicable)
Notice of Hearing
Agreement to Adoption
Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law
Judgment and Decree of Adult Adoption
Step-by-Step Filing and Hearing Instructions

Most Adult Adoption packets are completed within one or two business days after I receive the completed questionnaire and payment.
